ABSTRACT
Latin America is the leading continent when it comes to the introduction of gender quotas in politics. This chapter analyses the many experiences of gender quota policies in the region.1 It seeks to understand the general background - the main features and conditions that led to the adoption of these policies — to identify the main characteristics of the adopted legislation, as well as to evaluate its subsequent results and impacts on women's representation in legislative branches throughout the region.
