ABSTRACT
The basic aim of this chapter is to highlight some of the major changes that have taken place in the countries of our sample, which often earn the appellation of the ‘East Asia Miracle’. It should be noted that our aim is not to provide a detailed account of the economic history of the East Asian economies. The major rationale for including the statistical material that we have in this chapter is that these materials reflect our choice of the topics covered in the subsequent chapters.
