ABSTRACT

Since its founding in 1966, the National Committee on United States–China Relations has been at the forefront of promoting mutual understanding between the two nations. The programmatic implementation of this unchanging mission has ranged widely over the decades, encompassing varying emphases on public education (at first in the United States only, more recently in China as well), dialogue, and exchanges in cultural, educational, and policy spheres. Henry Kissinger recently said, ‘The National Committee is an indispensable part of any long-range approach to China.’ 1
