ABSTRACT

In nostalgia, our thoughts return to a certain environment or to a long-gone period of our life. In those recurring thoughts we feel that we return home. Or, at least we feel as if we are returning home to the environment in which our desires seemed fulfilled. In nostalgia, we experience an imaginary world parallel to our desires; in our imagination there appears to be such a parallel world. But was this world ever real or is it rather an echo of our own desire for moments of fulfilment? Is our memory of it true or imbued by illusion? In short, was there ever such a ‘home’?
