ABSTRACT

First observations e text thus far has relied on black and white images and diagrams. In practice, this is sufficient for effective communication. However, adding  to the mix can introduce other options that are worth considering. In addition, diagrams are not always or even usually the product of either printing or design software. In an educational environment, what we now refer to as traditional media – pens, pencil, paint and collage remain the common tools for two-dimensional images. Physical models too, the utility of their virtual cousins notwithstanding, augment learning in ways unique to real materials. A desk full of made artifacts and images lends itself to conversations and shared experiences different from those found at an electronic desktop.
