ABSTRACT

By the end of this chapter, we hope that you will:

understand why Kant is important for religious thought after the Enlightenment

know about his approach to philosophy, how he applies it to religion and what the results are – in particular, the relationship between morality and religion in his thought, and his objections to arguments for the existence of God

have thought about the implications of his work for modern understandings of what religion is, and how it relates to the public sphere.
