ABSTRACT

Parents1 play important, if not critical, roles in educating and supporting learners with special educational needs. They are first and foremost parents, with all the rights and responsibilities of that role, but they are also sources of information, partners in designing and implementing programmes for their children, ‘consumers’ of the education you provide and advocates for their children. As well, they may be in need of direct support, in the form of training, counselling or psychiatric care.
