One of the distinguishing features of the FE sector has always been the diversity of its student population. Since FE is essentially ‘education for all’, this is reflected in its student body in terms of age, gender, ability, attainment, economic, social class and cultural background and differing learning needs. Teaching in FE presents a set of challenges that are quite different from those presented in primary or secondary education.
