ABSTRACT

In 2008, an Australian TV reporter posed as a fashion buyer to gain entry into a Nike Malaysian factory. The investigation into the factory, which employed mostly foreign migrants, showed horrific working conditions. Large numbers of workers were living in cramped and filthy rooms and sharing toilets in very bad condition. Furthermore, these workers had to pay recruiting fees in order to get

access to these jobs. Once they got to the Nike plant, their passports were seized so that they would not be able to escape. Additionally, their wages were being reduced to pay off the recruiting fees.
