ABSTRACT
This chapter explores at least two dimensions of voting. First, it addresses voter turnout from both an aggregate and individual perspective. It identifies the factors that lead to higher (or lower) turnout levels in an election and those that explain why individuals do or do not go to the polls. Second, this chapter describes how individuals make their voting decisions. In doing so, it examines short-term and long-term influences on the vote.
