ABSTRACT

It is important in the case of children and young people with dyslexia that mainstream strategies are adapted and differentiated so that the students can benefi t from mainstream classroom teaching as well as any specialist input that may be necessary. The focus of this book is therefore on mainstream strategies and on equipping students with dyslexia with the skills and support needed for full curriculum access. It is important that the specialist tag that has been attached to dyslexia for so long is less prominent and that the differences rather than the deficits are acknowledged. It is important that all teachers in all schools are able to accommodate these differences within their day-to-day teaching practice.
