ABSTRACT

The problems of hunger and malnutrition remain a major concern for many millions of people worldwide. Yet, there has been significant progress in solving these problems as the number of hungry people in the world has declined steadily. Projected to reach an estimated 795 million in 2014–16 (FAO et al., 2015), the number has fallen by around 21 per cent since 1990–92, while the percentage of people who are hungry has fallen from 23 per cent to around 13 per cent in 2014–16.
