ABSTRACT

The Pergau story gets off to a bad start with Defence Secretary, George Younger, signing a “Protocol on Malaysia Defence Procurement Programme” with his Malaysian counterpart in Kuala Lumpur on 23 March 1988. The Protocol was intended to pave the way for a more detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to be signed later in the year in support of sales of defence equipment to the tune of £1 billion over a five-year period.
