ABSTRACT

[B]eginning is basically an activity which ultimately implies return and repetition rather than simple linear accomplishment, that beginning and beginning-again are historical whereas origins are divine, that a beginning not only creates but is its own method because it has intention. In short, beginning is making or producing difference, but … difference which is the result of combining the already-familiar with the fertile novelty of human work (Said [1977]1997, xxiii).
