ABSTRACT
It’s easy for teachers - often the wizened cynics of the staffroom - to see the teaching of reading as someone else’s job, such as the SENCO or the literacy coordinator. In reality, it’s everyone’s job. Every teacher in English is a teacher of English and nothing is more important than helping our pupils to develop a level of independence in their reading. It is a crucial life-skill.
