ABSTRACT
In Chapter 5 we discussed designing and planning your research. This involves asking research questions, gathering and making sense of the data, and generating evidence with a view to making a knowledge claim. We looked at how a research question can lead to a claim to knowledge: you begin with a question, and go through a range of transformational steps whereby you transform the question into a statement. However, if you make serious statements such as, ‘I know what I am doing’, you have to be prepared to stand over the claim, ground it in concrete evidence, and subject the whole process to the critical evaluation of sceptically minded others.
