ABSTRACT

In this exercise, pupils are given blank or partially labelled maps of a significant region of the world in a particular historical setting. The maps show twenty-first-century boundaries. Group members are encouraged to delineate historically significant regions by drawing new boundaries incorporating groups of countries with a common history or which were part of a single empire. The groups must justify their boundaries with reference to key events, ideas or periods. The maps may include prompts, such as present-day indicators of religious or cultural legacies derived from these historical phenomena.
