ABSTRACT
A fi ne, sharp and hard fi brous dust of respirable dust size which can become lodged in the lungs, causing damage to the lining of the lungs over a period of many years. Asbestos is a possible chronic health risk. It can lead to one of the following diseases:
■ asbestosis or fi brosis (scarring) of the lungs
■ lung cancer
■ mesothelioma – cancer of the lining of the lung.
