ABSTRACT

The term ‘surgery’ is used to embrace all branches of surgical work, as listed in the tables; it includes ophthalmology and accident and emergency. The term ‘general surgery’ is used to include doctors who described their career choices or jobs as surgery, general surgery, academic surgery, and surgery or general surgery with an interest in a special field of surgical practice. Vascular surgery is included in general surgery; other kinds of surgical work, such as transplant surgery, head and neck surgical oncology, and specialized work not clearly described, are grouped together as ‘other surgery’.
