ABSTRACT

In sending something in excess of 100,000 questionnaires to young doctors it is not surprising that we accumulated a large stock of comments. We made a point of emphasizing that all replies would be treated as strictly confidential, but it is nevertheless possible to capture the spirit of many of the views expressed, without their being attributable to any one person. We also met personally with some of our respondents, to discuss their problems and opinions, and in addition to our routine questionnaires we asked specifically at various times for views on the careers of women doctors (see Chapter 9) and on the quality and effectiveness of medical training.
