A database table in jMetrik may contain a variety of data types, such as demographic variables and test items. All variables are initially treated as either text or numbers and are listed as a “Not Item” on the Variables tab . jMetrik has no way to know which variables may be test items and which ones may be some other type of data. You must provide additional information for jMetrik to distinguish between test items and variables that are not items. Item scoring is the process of identifying test items in the database and providing scores for each possible response option. Item scoring does not change the data table. Rather, it stores scoring information in a separate table and converts item responses to score values during an analysis. This functionality allows you to change the answer key at any time.
