ABSTRACT
European water policy is based on a number of water related EU directives (see Table 3.1), as well as measures based on international obligations (e.g. Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean; Helsinki Convention on the protection of the Baltic Sea; Helsinki Convention on transboundary watercourse and international lakes; Convention for the Protection of the Rhine, OSPAR Convention). 1
