ABSTRACT

This book has covered a lot of the territory of newspapers in Japan in a fairly limited number of words. The content began with an overview of the structure and history of the Japanese newspaper industry, considering the newspaper as business and journalism as professional practice, and then took up the character of Japanese newspapers and Japanese journalism in general, several Japanese newspapers in detail, and then the reality of local Japanese newspapers, noting the balance of orientations and priorities in production and consumption, before concluding with consideration of the contemporary role the local Japanese newspaper plays, and can play in its host community, through the practice of revitalization journalism.
