ABSTRACT

Researching for this book has been a real pleasure: revisiting books and papers on English pedagogy I had not read for some time, and discovering several new pieces and even authors. I hope readers will find similar pleasure in looking through the excerpts I have selected, and in the suggestions for critically reflective activity in each chapter. It certainly strikes me that in the everchanging world of English in education, the quality of the writing at the heart of this world has been consistently very high: thoughtful, erudite, provocative and imaginative.
