ABSTRACT
Overview of the Linguistic and Other Sign Systems Reading and Writing Strategy Lessons Th e linguistic dimension of literacy is concerned with the reader and the writer as code breaker and code maker. Linguistic strategies support learners in understanding how the various systems of language interact in order to make meaning. Although the developmental, cognitive, and sociocultural dimensions are always present in all strategy instruction, linguistic strategy lessons highlight the language dimension of literacy.
