ABSTRACT
Overview of the Cognitive Reading and Writing Strategy Lessons Th e cognitive dimension of literacy is concerned with the reader and writer as meaning maker. Cognitive strategy instruction introduces children to various avenues through which they can more eff ectively and effi ciently construct ideas through written language. Although the linguistic, sociocultural, and developmental dimensions are always present in all strategy instruction, cognitive strategy lessons highlight the meaning making dimension of literacy.
