ABSTRACT
I grew up in St. Louis but I spent a lot of time in Detroit and Chicago too. Where I’m from, I knew I had two options to survive: join a gang or go to college. I chose school; either way I knew I wanted to fi t in, be valued and respected, you know. I guess I chose the right one.
