ABSTRACT

As we mentioned in the previous chapter, you may also be expected to demonstrate your knowledge through other types of written assignment as part of the assessment process for your Foundation Degree. You will see from this chapter that much of what was said previously about writing essays applies to these assignments, such as writing objectively, avoiding slang and casual language, using evidence to support claims and so on. Therefore you may need to refer back to it at times. In this chapter we will give you tips for writing reports; summarising practi-

cal and project work; writing short entries for diaries or source files; preparing a seminar paper; writing a case study; making a poster presentation; writing a reflective commentary; and writing a review. The chapter will finish with a short section on writing a dissertation. Clearly, what we can give is general advice; we strongly recommend that you always check the assignment instructions carefully and check with your tutor if you are unclear.
