ABSTRACT

Now that you are studying for a degree you will be expected to find out a lot of information for yourself. Looking at what your educational institution can provide to help you is a really important step. Additionally, finding, recording and retrieving the mass of information available is a fundamental part of studying for any higher-level qualification. This chapter aims to identify ways to help you do this; by looking at the sources of information you should have access to, ways of recording what you have found and offering some useful hints to make things as manageable as possible. Textbooks, the internet, handouts, workplace policies and documents,

lectures, presentations, demonstrations, observations and conversations can all be sources of useful information that you may need at a later date. Perhaps you can think of others. Some of this information will have been given to you by your tutors; the rest you will be finding out for yourself.
