ABSTRACT

Ports and logistics centers are nodes within the global supply chain. Overall, this network is a complex web balancing consumer supply and demand. The entire network is built from decisions made and influenced by a variety of actors, both local and international. These decisions influence the structural and physical form as well as the operations, including routing and mode choice. The sustainability of the supply chain as a whole, and the nodes individually, reflect the various choices made throughout the life cycle of infrastructure development. As with any project or system in which multiple actors have inputs, the definition and extent of sustainable choices is contingent upon tradeoffs and stakeholder perspectives.
