Your first Shakespeare play is the hardest. After all, reading a four-hundred year-old play is not in any way like reading a modern novel. This opening part of the book aims to explore the factors which can make the text of a Shakespeare play challenging to read. It also goes into detail about the ways in which Shakespeare uses language. This will help you to analyse his work, and so increase your appreciation of it.
