ABSTRACT

The 1975 anthology begins with Cheri Register's "Bibliographical Introduction" which, according to the editor, is an "interpretive introduction to the body of existing feminist criticism."} 1975 also sees the launching of the journal Signs, which includes yearly "review essays, assessing the status of the study of women in the various disciplines."2 Elaine Showalter writes the first review essay on literary criticism. Although subsequent review writers will only be responsible for the scholarship published since the last "review essay," Showalter has to account for all feminist literary scholarship extant, thus covering approximately the same ground as Register's "Bibliographical Introduction."
