ABSTRACT
The 1985 anthology entitled The New Feminist Criticism never indicates what it means by the word "new."] A footnote to one of the essays uses the phrase "our current wave of New Feminism."2 Here "new" refers to the feminist movement of the mid-twentieth century. This categorization, very common in histories of feminism, is not, I believe, what "new" means in the collection's title.
