ABSTRACT

This chapter defines visual impairment, blindness and low vision and outlines some developmental implications of visual impairment. It looks at prevalence and causal factors. After considering identification and assessment of visual impairment the chapter examines provision including low vision devices and lighting, orientation and mobility, gaining rapid and efficient access to information, and reading using tactile methods.
