Study of this chapter will enable the reader to:
identify and use the thermal conductivity and resistivity of building materials;
calculate the thermal resistance of a composite structure;
use surface and cavity thermal resistance values;
calculate the thermal transmittance of walls, roofs, floors and windows;
use the proportional area method to calculate the average U value of a thermally bridged structure;
calculate the fabric and ventilation building heat loss components for a building;
define hot water storage power requirements;
calculate total heating plant power.
