ABSTRACT

Playing, exploring, reflecting, and expressing are behaviours that are central to human experience. Education has always harnessed them for the purposes of teaching and learning, and technology has always, in many ways, been developed to augment them. So, in this chapter we will look at how online games and virtual worlds have been used to enhance play; how social bookmarking, tagging and recommending systems enhance our explorations; how blogs, social networks and wikis add to our capacity to reflect; and how media-sharing,

manipulation and remixing are enabling us to express ourselves in new and very creative ways. As we do so, we will examine the impacts of these new enhancing tools for education. Finally, we will show how these technologies can be glued together to constitute a dynamic learning environment for use within your own teaching.
