Green infrastructure is not just about the outside of buildings (Figure 3.1). This chapter will demonstrate the value that incorporating green elements inside buildings, and even views of green spaces from windows, has for mood and mental and physical health. Vegetation can also moderate the microclimate of buildings and remove air pollutants. Examples will include a range of situations such as the home, computer rooms, hospitals, oces and department stores. Green elements in such situations can vary from potted plants (Burchett et al., 2010) through to internal green walls adjacent to stairways, walkways and foyers (Butkovich et al., 2008; Cosgrave, 2009; Knowles et al., 2003).
