ABSTRACT

There are several problems that science poses for the ethical enterprise in business-school education and business organizations that were mentioned in an earlier section on science. Pragmatism as a philosophy has an approach to these problems that is unique and off ers the possibility of embedding ethics and moral considerations into the heart of what a business organization is all about. It does not allow ethics to be compartmentalized into the realm of mere opinion where it can be easily dismissed as having no particular relevance to business problems because it cannot provide fi rm answers to the moral considerations business faces. It provides a way of dealing with moral pluralism by incorporating diff erent ethical theories into a comprehensive framework that utilizes the strengths of these various approaches. And fi nally, it provides a sense of community to overcome the individualism that pervades much of ethical thinking.
