ABSTRACT
Social media or social networking have been defined as websites that allow the user to construct a public or semi-public profile within a bounded system, articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and view and traverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system. The nature and nomenclature of these connections may vary from site to site. This definition is fantastic but it would be good to break this down into more casual terms. Social media allow the user to connect with people they may have never connected with before. No longer does a person who moved away from their hometown have to wait until a high school reunion to see what his or her classmates ended up doing with their lives.
