ABSTRACT

We continue our review of motivational inuences on physical activity by reviewing the study of how we perceive our competence and condence to be physically active. Specically, in this chapter we aim to:

● outline the basic framework of Social Cognitive Theory (SCT); ● describe and dene self-ecacy as a key component of SCT; ● present an overview of research ndings concerning self-ecacy in the context of

physical activity; ● present some alternative views on condence relevant to the study of physical activity.
