ABSTRACT

In January 1888 KS left the Russian Musical Society and the AC's performances at Red Gates came to an end: life had supervened and marriage was a chief reason for the departure of its members. KS's sisters Nyusha and Zina married the cotton broker Andrey Shteker and Doctor Konstantin Sokolov, respectively. KS himself was dissatisfied with the level of work in the domestic sphere; his father bowed to the inevitable and allowed his son to create an amateur group outside the family. KS's cousin Nikolay, the mayor of Moscow, expressed his displeasure that KS was spending more time on theatre than at the factory and called him daft.
