Clients who enter therapy with a history of complex trauma are often mired in survival mindstates that perpetuate cycles of feeling powerless, devalued, and out of control. The goal of treatment then is to help clients move from survival mindstates to engaged mindstates. People who are working in an engaged mindstate feel powerful, in control, and of value. They have access to inner and outer resources and are collaborative and fl exible. They practice mindfulness and are engaged in supportive relationships.
