SOUTHERN HOKKAIDO AINU

The genetic affiliation of the Ainu language is unknown. Ainu is agglutinating, polysyn­ thetic, and incorporating, with SOV constituent order and a mixed (but basically tripartite) alignment. It is predominantly head­marking and prefixing.
