ABSTRACT

Throughout this text we have tried to discuss issues of ethics and good professional practice as they have come up, but it is important that you should have an understanding of the codes of practice and guidance and how they apply to the media in which you work. This means the Press Complaints Commission code for newspaper and magazine reporters, Radio Authority and Broadcasting Standards Commission code for independent sector radio journalists, the BBC Producer Guidelines and the Broadcasting Standards Commission code for BBC journalists and the Independent Television Commission and the Broadcasting Standards Commission code for independent television journalists. Journalists working on web sites linked to a traditional media should follow the codes applying in that medium, while journalists on web sites that are completely independent would still do well to adhere to the general tenor of all the codes.
