ABSTRACT

Art Trading Cards Art Trading Cards began as business cards among artists. Each one was an original piece of work with the artist’s contact information on the back. When used as part of the reading program, students design cards that express what they see as the main meaning of a book. Th is process requires readers to fi gure out what is most important and then represent it symbolically. Finished cards serve as testimonials for great books once students begin trading them. Figure 10.1 shows an Art Trading Card recommending the adolescent novel Call Me Hope (Olson, 2008) to other readers.
