ABSTRACT

Twelve miles north of the beautiful city of Cardiff lies Pontypridd where the main Rhondda valley and the Merthyr valleys meet. Three miles further north in the Merthyr valley is Abercynon where the Cynon valley joins the Merthyr valley. Eight miles north of this the narrow valley suddenly swells into a large basin, and in this basin lies the town of Aberdare, locally styled The Queen of the Valleys'. Here in 1906, I was born.
