ABSTRACT

The illustrative material in the preceding chapter is a paradigm for the summative evaluation of the team. The summative evaluation is no more than a multiple single case study design based on the model of data collection mentioned in Chapter 2. The exact variables on which data were collected will be given later. Certain of these data gave useful summative statistics in the form of means and standard deviations of variables such as age at referral, baseline scores on standardised assessments, differences between baseline and post-intervention scores and ratings of outcome. Frequency counts were possible on month of referral, gender, types of intervention, school year and school. These were helpful in planning the allocation of resources (the time of team teachers in different schools), and looking at referral trends within a school and across schools. Also, knowing the prevalence of different interventions helped in the planning of in-service training sessions for team teachers. These points will be elaborated in more detail later. For the moment they serve to give an idea of the scope of the data collection and the practical purposes to which it has been put.
