ABSTRACT

The link between the organisation of a school and the disruptive behaviour of specific pupils (made in Chapter 1) is easier to assert than to specify. It has been suggested (Rutter, M. et al., 1979) that, even controlling for such factors as socio-economic background or the attainment level of children at the time of entry into different schools, there are significant differences between secondary schools in terms of the behaviour of their pupils. It was argued that these differences were connected with the organisation or, less tangibly, the ethos of the school.
