ABSTRACT

This paper questions the process of fashion design and provides an argument for how fashion designers can engage with sustainable practices. By specifically discussing the fashion design process as applied in micro, small and medium sized fashion businesses 1 , the role and influence of the fashion designer can be mapped across the phases of design and production. As the phases within the fashion design process are identified, associated activities become a point of reference from which to consider how designers need to rethink their roles and behaviours in the context of sustainable design strategies.
