ABSTRACT
The impressive feature in the financial crises is that the giant financial institutions jointly come to the brink of collapse. This is often claimed to be the eruption of the accumulated “systemic risk” in the financial system, the risk coming from each individual financial firm’s activities but having the impact of destabilizing the entire system as a whole. In this and next chapters, we will discuss various sources of systemic risks.
